The recent terrorist attacks in Lebanon, which resulted in the harming of a significant number of civilians, are a matter of grave concern and a clear violation of human rights. The indiscriminate killing of civilians and military personnel alike constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and human rights.

Such attacks are a violation of the fundamental principles of human dignity and the right to life. The Committee for the Defense of Human Rights in Iran-Austria is convinced that political or military conflicts must never lead to the fundamental human rights of the affected population being disregarded. The targeted or indiscriminate killing of civilians is a violation of the Geneva Conventions and other international agreements on the protection of human rights.

The deliberate killing of civilians, whether targeted or indiscriminate, constitutes a violation of the Geneva Conventions and other international agreements that seek to protect human rights.

The possibility of an escalation throughout the Middle East is a valid cause for concern. The perpetration of terrorist actions such as these can result in immediate damage, as well as the potential for deeper, longer-term conflicts that could have a destabilizing effect on the entire region, leading to further suffering.

It is imperative that the United Nations and the international community exercise the utmost vigilance in monitoring such developments and employ all available means to guarantee respect for human rights and prevent further escalation of violence.

In this context, it is of the utmost importance that both state and non-state actors assume responsibility for the promotion of peace and the prevention of escalation.
