Call against a New War in the Middle East
Drums of a war are beating loudly again, in the Middle East.
On one side stands the military power of the USA and its regional allies; on the other side, the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Escalating tensions could, in the worst- case scenario, —intentionally or unintentionally —, spark a new war in the region. The world is still suffering from the consequences of the war in Iraq in 2003, which was launched based on false claims and assumptions.

Joint letter in support of the UN General Assembly resolution on the situation of human rights in Iran
The continued attention of the international community is required to ensure Iran upholds its international human rights obligations. By supporting resolution A/C.3/73/L.42, the UN General Assembly will send a strong signal to the Iranian authorities that the promotion and respect of human rights is a priority, and that genuine and tangible improvements to the situation are expected to ensure the dignity inherent to all persons in Iran.

Iran is putting political prisoners' lives at risk by denying them medical care
Iran’s authorities are callously toying with the lives of prisoners of conscience and other political prisoners by denying them adequate medical care, putting them at grave risk of death, permanent disability or other irreversible damage to their health, according to a new report by Amnesty International published today.

Press briefing notes on Flogging in Iran, unfair restrictions on NGO access to the UN and executions in Gaza
We condemn the outrageous flogging of up to 35 young men and women in Iran last week, after they were caught holding a graduation party together in Qazvin, north of Tehran. According to State media, the students were arrested on Thursday, interrogated and sentenced by the Prosecutor’s Office to 99 lashes each and then were flogged – all within the space of 24 hours. - See more at: http://www.ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/Pages/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=20037&LangID=E-#sthash.SYADHRqW.dpuf

Juvenile offender to be executed in a week gives harrowing torture account
“That the Iranian authorities are preparing to put to death a young man who’s been tortured for 97 days to ‘confess’ when he was 17 years old beggars belief. With less than a week left before he is due to be executed, there is no time to waste. Saman’s execution must be immediately stopped and his case thoroughly reviewed,” said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Amnesty International’s Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa.

Charlie Hebdo: After the shock and mobilisation, comes time for action

Analysis of The FIDH Executive Bureau

FIDH commends the millions who took part in the 11 January 2015 Marches in France and other parts of the world, in reaction to the killings in Paris targetting Charlie Hebdo and a Kosher supermarket. Witnessing the reactionary demonstrations taking place in response to Charlie Hebdo’s most recent publication, FIDH feels especially compelled to analyse their significance and outcomes.
